This prayer is intended to be the first of two parts, in order to provide the reader with the appropriate spiritual mindset and spiritual protection in reading an apostolic writing dealing with matters of spiritual warfare. This Binding Prayer is intended to be read together with the Binding Apostolic Command that follows it. The prayer asks God to give effect to the binding on His own, and then the bishop issues an apostolic binding command, which God is asked to enforce in the Name of Jesus Christ.1

Almighty2 and Most High God,3 our Father who art in Heaven,4 the Creator of Heaven and Earth,5 we6 come to You in prayer7 in the Name8 of Your only begotten Son,9 Jesus,10 the one mediator between God and men.11 Father, these writings are apostolic teachings of Your Word12 and are intended to glorify You and Your Son, Jesus Christ.13 We know that the enemy14 comes as soon as the word is sown15 and takes it away from the heart, lest men believe and be saved.16 Satan is the god of this world until the return of Christ,17 and he blinds the minds of men,18 dulls the hearing,19 causes confusion,20 and causes the believer to forget what was taught.21

Therefore, Father, we ask the following22 for all who read these Apostolic Writings:23

We ask that the Holy Spirit empower them24 to read these teachings with understanding25 and discernment,26 that they read with the mind of Christ27 and not with a carnal, fallen mind.28

We ask that the Holy Spirit, Who was sent by our LORD Jesus Christ29 upon His ascension to Your right hand,30 allow them to read with spiritual eyes31 and that He bring all things to their remembrance.32

We ask that their hearts be opened to receive instruction33 and that they be guided into all truth34 and that, by reading these teachings, You draw them closer to You35 and that they be sanctified by Your Truth.36

We ask that You bind the evil one,37 the father of lies,38 the enemy of mankind39 who hates You and us,40 who were created in Your image.41 We ask that You bind him from preventing understanding,42 from engaging the emotions negatively in response to hearing the truth,43 from closing their ears and hardening their hearts,44 and from causing them to forget these teachings45 thereby rendering the teachings unfruitful in them46 in this spiritual warfare that we are now engaged in.47

We pray that You bless those who read these teachings,48 bless them and their house,49 and that You bind the enemy from retaliating against them50 for seeking Your face.51 We pray the blood of Jesus over them,52 over these teachings, and over their entire spiritual house.53 Unleash Your power, O LORD,54 and protect thine anointed.55

We ask that these teachings equip those who read56 to lead a righteous life acceptable unto You57 and that they grow more and more like Christ58 with each passing day.59

And finally, Father, we ask that You give effect to the spiritual binding60 that Your servant will now place upon these writings,61 that the enemy be put to flight,62 and that the enemy tremble in fear63 should they trespass the hedge of Your protection.64

We give You thanks and praise,65 Father, that You have not left us defenseless in this spiritual warfare.66 You have given us Your Word, which is the sword of the Spirit67 and is sharper than any two-edged sword.68 You have given up Your only begotten Son, our LORD Jesus Christ, so that we may have eternal life69 and so that we may fight from a place of victory, and not defeat,70 Christ having triumphed over and made a mockery of the principalities and powers71 set in high places by the god of this world.72 Through His Blood we are made whole,73 reconciled to You,74 and given the crown of victory and everlasting life.75 You have sent Your Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth,76 and You have given us the Body of Christ on earth, the Church,77 of which Christ said, “. . . the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”78

And we thank You, Father, that You have heard us,79 and in faith we know that You will bless us and answer our prayer.80

All these things we ask in the Name of81 our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ.82 Amen.83

Please note: The Binding Prayer, standing alone, may be ineffective. As the prayer itself indicates, Satan and his apostate host sometimes lash out and retaliate against those who read the Word of God. The bishop regards this as a very serious matter, one requiring the fullest protection possible. The reader is therefore encouraged to read the Binding Apostolic Command as well, and to read it prayerfully.

The reader is now respectfully and prayerfully directed to The Binding Apostolic Command for full protection in reading the apostolic writings contained on this website.

Notes

1It is a great mystery to me that, for nearly two thousand years, the Church has known that Satan and his apostate host steal the Word of God from the people of God in various ways, with the design of keeping them ignorant of the Truth. “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 (KJV). And yet no Church writings, and no writings of any Christian author of which I am aware, begin with a binding prayer or with a binding command by one in authority holding the office of bishop or apostle. Given the acknowledged spiritual warfare in which the Church and the members of the Body of Christ are now engaged, it seems reasonable and prudent to me to include such a binding prayer in all writings dealing with matters of the Christian faith. ↩︎

2“. . . the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Genesis 17:1 (KJV); “. . . and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.” Revelation 4:8 (KJV). ↩︎

3“And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth.” Genesis 14:18–19 (KJV); “I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.” Psalm 57:2 (KJV). ↩︎

4“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” Matthew 6:9 (KJV). ↩︎

5“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (KJV); “. . . the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary . . .” Isaiah 40:28 (KJV); “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:2 (KJV); “Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is.” Acts 4:24 (KJV). ↩︎

6“We” here is intended to mean the reader as well as the bishop author. ↩︎

The Greek word is anthrōpos (Strong’s G444), which denotes human beings without regard to sex, as distinct from anēr (G435), a man as male. The verse therefore includes women and men alike, for in Christ “there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28 (KJV). ↩︎

12“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” Acts 2:42 (KJV); “Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.” 2 Thessalonians 2:15 (KJV); “And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.” Ephesians 2:20 (KJV); “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” 2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV). ↩︎

50“Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? . . .” Job 1:10 (KJV) (the recorded words of Satan which document that God’s protection acts as a hedge around the righteous and their house [which is confirmed by a detailed examination of Job and beyond the scope of the citation here]. I have referred to this when dealing with the Christian faithful with whom I have ministered as “Praying the Hedge.”); “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not . . .” Luke 22:31–32 (KJV); “. . . afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.” Mark 4:17 (KJV) (this verse illustrates that Satan and his apostate host can and sometimes do retaliate against the hearer or reader of the Word of God because the Word was received. This prayer asks God not to permit this in this teaching); “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.” Psalm 91:10 (KJV) (. . . because of the Hedge that was asked for in prayer, heard by God, and answered). ↩︎

57“. . . that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.” 1 Timothy 2:2–3 (KJV); “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1–2 (KJV); “. . . we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” Titus 2:12 (KJV). ↩︎

58“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV); “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.” Ephesians 4:15 (KJV); “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ . . .” 2 Peter 3:18 (KJV); “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” Proverbs 4:18 (KJV). ↩︎

60“That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers . . .” Isaiah 44:26 (KJV) (asking that God confirm and perform the word that His servant speaks); “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven . . . Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 18:18–19 (KJV); “And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” Mark 16:20 (KJV). ↩︎
